The Royal Decree 30/2011, of January 14th, on the structure of the Ministry of Public Works establishes, among others, the following functions of the Directorate-General of Land and Urban Policies:
• To design, maintenance and update the Urban Information System (SIU), a national database on land and urban planning, regulated by the State Land Act (Legislative Royal Decree 2/2008, of June 20th), in coordination with the other public authorities in this field.• To collaborate with the Autonomous Communities and Municipalities in knowledge dissemination regarding urban planning techniques and good practices.• To promote and develop research projects in relation to land policies, and the collection and dissemination of information about these policies.• To give technical support and participate in forums and international organizations related to urban policies, especially regarding urban actions financed by EU funds and in national and international networks on information about urban policies.
The main results of the implementation and development of the above functions are included in this website in addition to contents relating to information on urban matters in Spain from different points of view. Thus, the collected information is about the Urban Information System (SIU) of the Ministry of Public Works, the regional urban information systems in Spain, the legal basis of our urban and territorial planning system, statistical data on cities and urban areas, among others.
